Genesis 28:10-15 - Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran... and the Lord said: "I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."
Our Lord has shown himself to be a faithful God, even when we have not been faithful to him. Our scripture setting is the time when Jacob had deceived his father into giving him the family blessing and now he was running for his life as his brother Esau pursued him.
The amazing part of this story is that our faithful God did not abandon Jacob even when Jacob violated God's principles. This message is about the God who will not abandon us even when we are walking away from him.
We begin our relationship with God through faith then our faith matures as we add virtues to it.
In 2Peter 1:3-11 the apostle Peter gives us a list of virtues to add to our faith. Among them are goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness , brotherly kindness, and love.
He goes on to say, "If you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Would you like to know how to add these virtues to your faith?
On your journey of faith you will find that in order to have a consistent walk you must give constant attention to your progress.
