Most pastors and ministry leaders are looking for ways to effectively reach their communities with the message of Christ. The chances are that you will not build a large congregation overnight using the relationship method, but the growth you do get will be solid and consistent. Don't look down on slow growth. In fact, look at your own ministry. How much has it grown over the last 10 years? If you are like most ministries you haven't shown much growth at all and most of the growth you have had was people transferring in to you group.
I have nothing negative to say about those who employ a sound marketing strategy and invest a lot of money building a large congregation. It works for them and many people come to Christ through those ministries. Sometimes I wish that was my calling, but it isn't.
It has fallen my lot to be a plow boy. I just plow the field, plant the seed, water it, weed it and patiently wait for it grow. In fact, I call this method of relationship evangelism the farming method because it is so much like the work of the farmer.
The method explained in the book, Relationship Evangelism -- The Farming Method requires a lot of hands on work. It requires building relationships with one person at a time until a group of new believers grow up around you and you disciple them into being committed followers of Christ. Then you mentor them into leadership and train them to win people by building relationship with them.
Some years ago I moved to Brower Street in Springfield, Missouri. Within a few months I had met nearly every family who lived on my street in a two block area. It's kind of a detailed story, but the bottom line is that I built a relationship with two men on my street and eventually began meeting with them every Tuesday Evening for prayer and Bible study. The three of us met together for awhile then their wives wanted to come so I invited them, and my wife changed her schedule so she could come. The six of us met once a week for a few months then another person was added, then another and another, until we could no longer fit in my living room.
That ministry grew to having as many as 26 attend Tuesday Evening prayer and Bible Study. The good part is that most of the people who attended were new believers who had been won to Christ through the influence of that group.
I now live in Lucerne, California. Not long after I moved here I started visiting people in a local mobile home park. Within a couple of months of meeting and making friends with people living in the park we started having weekly meeting in their club house. There are now about 20 people from that park who attend a local church I started about a year ago.
A few months ago my wife felt lead to start serving coffee with muffins and pastries in a park nearby. We live a few hundred yards from Clearlake and about a block and half from a popular park with a fishing pier. Jane started serving coffee at 8:30 every Sunday morning before our regular worship service. Recently I started having a little devotional out of the Daily God Walk devotional with some of the regulars who come for coffee.
The early devotion in the park has become known as "church in the park." We started out with about 2 and now have as many as 25. When I see these people around town during the week they let me know they look forward to their church in the park.

Have you wondered why 80% of churches in America never average more than 100 in attendance? Have you wondered why such a large number of pastors are bi-vocational - earning the money to support their family in a non-ministry job while they do their best to lead a small congregation as a part-time pastor?
If that is you, or someone you know, I have good news. By using the strategies and methods explained in the book, Relationship Evangelism - The Farming Method, your ministry can flourish, not only with new people but with new life as new babes are born into Christ.
Don't hesitate. Everyone who registers to receive the Daily God Walk News will receive absolutely free a copy of the book, Relationship Evangelism - The Farming Method.
