12 Steps: Step Twelve
Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
When we have had a spiritual awakening it is only natural for us to become aware of those who are struggling with their lives and have not yet begun their journey of grace, or perhaps have started but have stalled along the way because they haven't yet learned the process. Now, as we mature, we have the responsibility of leading others into the freedom we have gained in Christ.
The twelfth step in the God-Walk, a Journey of Faith is about our responsibility to others after having a spiritual awakening as the result of the 12 Steps. Therefore we try to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
When we have gained much through a certain knowledge it becomes essential that we share that knowledge with someone who is still struggling with their life. Paul instructs in Galatians 6:1 that we are to look with compassion, not judgment, upon those who have fallen. Our responsibility is to use everything we know to open them to restoration. We must be our brothers keeper.
Jesus taught us that we are not only to be disciples, but we are to make disciples. In the passage commonly called "The Great Commission," Jesus instructs, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing... and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20).
We who have gone through the process of the 12 Steps, and are now following Christ, have the obligation to lead others to find what we have found and experience what we have experienced.
I don't believe step twelve is an add-on to our recovery process. It is a vital step to our continued recovery. When we share what has happened to us as the result to our commitment to the process it does two things.
First, it reinforces our own commitment and strengthens us for the journey.
Second, it gives others hope that their life can change as well.

Recovery is not just about drugs and alcohol. We need recovery from any behavior that has become habitual and is affecting our life in a negative way.
